Saying goodbye is never easy. Knowing your pet insurance provider will be there for you when the time comes, and in which ways they can provide support to you after your pet’s passing, however, is useful and comforting information to have.
Planning ahead is a necessary part of pet care. Here at Insure Your Paws, we created our ‘Saying Goodbye’ optional extra (available at additional cost) to make sure pet owners have access to an optional extra which will support them during a very difficult time, at the end of their pet’s life.
We’ve put together a list of frequently asked questions with some useful information about how this optional extra could be of great use to pet owners, what it covers and how to find out more information.
What does the ‘Saying Goodbye’ pet loss optional extra cover?
We know that a pet’s passing is a distressing time, so with this optional extra you’re protected against some of the costs that can arise, to help ease at least the financial burden of this unfortunate event.
We know we cannot replace your pet, however we can pay a sum of money of up to £5,000 in the event of their passing. Think of this as life insurance for your pet. Note terms and conditions apply.
Additionally, if your pet needs to be put to sleep at home, then at-home euthanasia is covered up to £300. Offering a more peaceful passing, where your pet can be with loved ones, in the place they felt most comfortable and calm. It also allows you extra privacy to say goodbye to them and more control over the experience.
Furthermore, when you lay them to rest, we will pay up to £250 towards cremation and burial costs; this can also be used for the cost of an urn or casket, as well.
What bereavement support and end of life care are offered as standard through an Insure Your Paws Policy
During this terrible time, we appreciate the need for comfort and support from a friendly ear. That’s why, even without our ‘Saying Goodbye’ optional extra, every Insure Your Paws customer has access to our 24/7 Assist Your Paws careline, where they can speak with our fully trained bereavement support team, any time, night or day.
The cost of putting your pet to sleep in-clinic, is also included as standard, up to your chosen vet fee limit, in every Insure Your Paws policy.
However, the one off payment of up to £5,000, the at-home euthanasia costs and the support towards cremation and burial costs are only available through the ‘Saying Goodbye’ optional extra only.
Why might this pet loss optional extra be of use to me?
Here at Insure Your Paws, we know that pet loss can be devastating, and the last thing you want to worry about at this time is the costs associated with putting your beloved pet to sleep, or laying them to rest.
That’s why this optional extra could be of use, because it protects against these costs, and helps alleviate some of the financial worries, so you can focus on celebrating your pet’s life and memory and grieving with one less burden on your shoulders.
How can I tailor my pet’s cover to suit their needs, through each stage of their life?
As your pet moves through different phases of their life, their needs change. That's why Insure Your Paws offers a number of optional extras, including Find My Pet, Away From Home, Saying Goodbye and Breeding Cover, so pet owners can tailor their policies with optional extras, to suit their pet’s needs better.
You can upgrade or downgrade your pet's cover at renewal by choosing a different vet fee limit, or by adding or removing optional extras (available at additional cost). You can also increase or decrease your excess and bill share amounts. Some changes made to your policy may affect your policy premium.
Are there any age restrictions on the ‘Saying Goodbye’ optional extra?
Yes, there are. If your dog passes away from an illness and is aged over 8 years old, or if your cat passes away from an illness and is aged over 10 years old, then unfortunately they will not be covered. There is no age limit if your pet passes away due to an accident.
Every Insure Your Paws customer has access to a fully trained bereavement support team, who are always here for you to talk to in a safe and non-judgmental space, via our Assist Your Paws careline.
